The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) logo is a symbol of sustainability and responsible forest management. Specifying PEFC certified paper-based packaging which includes the PEFC logo, enables you to show consumers that the raw materials used in your packaging solutions are sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Benefits of Using the PEFC Logo?

Using the PEFC logo represents a commitment to sustainable forest management and the responsible sourcing of forest products. Using the PEFC logo on products and promotional materials not only showcases adherence to rigorous environmental standards but also provides numerous benefits for businesses, consumers, and the environment. This logo signifies a dedication to preserving biodiversity, promoting forest health, and supporting sustainable livelihoods, among other vital aspects. Below, are the key benefits of using the PEFC certified materials:

Biodiversity Protection

The PEFC logo ensures that forest management practices are designed to protect and enhance biodiversity. By adhering to PEFC standards, forest operations maintain diverse ecosystems, safeguarding various plant and animal species and promoting ecological resilience.

Forest-Positive Future

Utilizing the PEFC logo reflects a commitment to a forest-positive future, where sustainable forest management practices contribute to the overall health and growth of forested areas. This approach supports the long-term viability of forests and their capacity to provide essential resources and ecosystem services.

Forests Health and Vitality

Products bearing the PEFC logo are sourced from forests managed for their health and vitality. This involves sustainable harvesting techniques that maintain the ecological functions and processes of forests, ensuring they remain robust and productive.

Deforestation-free

The PEFC certification guarantees that the wood and paper products do not contribute to deforestation. The logo assures consumers that the products come from responsibly managed forests where clear-cutting and illegal logging are strictly prohibited.

Climate Change Mitigation

By promoting sustainable forest management, the PEFC logo plays a crucial role in climate change mitigation. Forests act as significant carbon sinks, and responsible management practices help in sequestering carbon, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and combating climate change.

Water and Soil Protection

PEFC-certified forests adhere to practices that protect water bodies and soil health. Sustainable forestry operations minimize soil erosion and preserve water quality, ensuring that these vital resources remain uncontaminated and available for future generations.

Respecting Indigenous Peoples’ Rights

The PEFC standards respect the rights and traditions of indigenous peoples. Using the PEFC logo signifies that the products are sourced from forests where the rights of indigenous communities are acknowledged and preserved, supporting their cultural heritage and livelihoods.

Fair and Safe Working Conditions/Sustainable Livelihoods

The PEFC certification promotes fair and safe working conditions within the forestry sector. This includes ensuring that workers have access to proper safety measures, fair wages, and sustainable livelihoods, contributing to the overall well-being of communities involved in forest management.

By incorporating the PEFC logo, brands and retailers can demonstrate their commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and the sustainable use of forest resources, thus gaining consumer trust and contributing to a healthier planet. PEFC-certified forests are managed with a focus on maintaining ecosystem services, benefiting both people and the planet.

How to Use the PEFC Logo on Your Packaging

There are two types of PEFC logo that packaging manufacturers can use on your products as follows:

2. The ‘PEFC Recycled’ label can be used where the packaging is made from 100% recycled content.

These logos can be generated by certified companies using the PEFC Label Generator, which allows variations in the orientation and the layout of the labels to be made to suit the users’ needs:
