PEFC UK Ltd was established in 2000 and is a member of PEFC International. PEFC is an international non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification. PEFC works throughout the entire forest supply chain to promote good practice in the forest and to ensure that timber and non-timber forest products are produced with respect for the highest ecological, social and ethical standards. PEFC’s distinctive ‘green trees’ logo make it a truly global brand and means customers and consumers are able to identify products from sustainably managed forests.

Our outgoing chair, Ross Bradshaw, has played a crucial role in strengthening and consolidating our organisation over the past years, and as his term of office concludes he leaves a very strong legacy for his successor. But we also know that there’s no room for complacency, and we are looking for a new chair to take up the challenge of leading us into the next phase with energy, commitment and rigour.

Candidates will share our passionate commitment to Sustainable Forestry Management, increasing our membership and building stronger alliances with other related organisations. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Sufficient industry knowledge and experience of sectors in which PEFC UK is active
  • Preferably holds or has held senior leadership role(s) within a large, complex organisation ideally with P&L responsibility and evidence of creating and implementing Strategic change. Previous experience of Chairing an organisation, NGO or similar, would be an advantage
  • Proven networking capability to influence positive change in support of PEFC UK’s goals
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills …. influence, balance and an appropriate level of neutrality
  • Experience of working with commercial organisations / NGO to effect positive change both nationally and internationally

The expected duties will include, providing strategic support and direct line management experience to coach and guide the Executive Director of PEFC UK to ensure targets and goals are achieved. Also, to assist the Executive Director with wider management of PEFC UK employees, where appropriate. To manage and reshape the PEFC UK Board to deliver the strategic aims of the organisation. This will include managing the balance of skills & experience as well as identifying gaps that can improve the effectiveness of both the PEFC UK Board and PEFC International.

This is an un-paid role, however all related expenses will be covered.
