PEFC celebrates the International Day of Forests with an increase in certified forest area and a greater number of companies and organizations committed to forest sustainability
On March 21, the International Day of Forests was proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2012 and dedicated this day to forests and sustainable cities. PEFC UK joins this celebration, along with a greater number of entities, committed to the sustainability of forests.
According to the latest data collected by PEFC UK, the forest area certified in the UK under the PEFC system is now 1.4 million hectares. In addition, more than 1200 companies have an independently certified chain of custody and able to exhibit their environmental credentials and trade in PEFC certified material.
At the international level, PEFC now has 313 million hectares certified worldwide and the support of 750,000 forest owners and managers, who take care of their forests in a sustainable way, making PEFC the largest forest certification system in the world.
So on behalf of PEFC UK, we wish everyone who works, plays, or is involved with trees or timber in any capacity, a very Happy International Day of Forests!
