In 2008, PEFC UK introduced a notification scheme which is in effect a small levy on each chain of custody certificate that is awarded once a company has been audited by an accredited certification body and found to meet the requirements of the PEFC International Chain of Custody standard.
This charge is a small contribution to the PEFC UK’s administrative and marketing costs and to PEFC International. The notification fee is collected by the accredited and notified certification body.
Once a Chain of Custody certificate holder has become notified, they will become members of PEFC and will need to choose the category group in which they sit. They will also be able to enter into a logo licence agreement with PEFC UK at no additional cost, subject to the certificate holder applying to enter or renew an existing contract.
With effect from 1 January 2020 the Tariff Scale for Notification Fees for the UK in GBP (exclusive of VAT) is:
Project Certification will have a fixed one off Notification fee of £500
Forest certification – £0.005 per Hectare or £50 minimum
- Multi-site certificates will be based on the gross turnover of the business
- For agents handling certified product, the definition of turnover will be based upon the gross value of the product handled
- All the above amounts will be subject to VAT at 20%
